Vintage woodcut entitled "View of Brownsville, Vermont" signed by the artist, edition of 250. The image portion of this mid-century print measures 16-1/2" by 11-3/4, and it is numbered 36 of 250. The artist William P. Manahan was from mid-coast Maine. His woodcuts often featured local scenes with works entitled "Fundy Side", "Clam Diggers", and "Bunker Boats". He also worked as a book illustrator ("The book of Jonah", published in 1950). William P Manahan was born in 1928 and died in 1990, at which time he lived in Rockport, ME.

Vintage signed copper plate etching by listed artist Paul Lameyer, German-American (1885-1960). This etching measures 13" by 10" and the image is 9-3/4" by 7". The subject is Boston's Quincy Market, C1935. The print is signed and titled in pencil by Lameyer. The condition is very good with full margins, and only very minor toning or other signs of age. Paul Lameyer was born in Hanover, Germany October 30, 1885. He was educated at the Technology School in Munich and graduated with a degree in engineering. He came from a wealthy background and during the 1920’s he lived in Italy, competing as an amateur on the international tennis circuit. In 1926 he moved from Italy to the United States and married Helen Hunt Ames of Newton, Massachusetts. In Boston he worked for the architectural firm of Cram and Ferguson on Boylston Street. According to raisonne.org, his principal output of etchings was from 1933-1941 and his entire body of printmaking may date from this period.

Small vintage etching by listed artist John McGrath that depicts the working class French drawing water from a public fountain. The image is moderately toned and measures 4 1/4" by 5". It is signed in pencil by the artist and is currently in a worn black 10 X 10 frame. This etching is not dated but might be from the early part of his career when he studied in France.

The Baltimore artist John McGrath studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Paris at the Académie Julian and Académie Colarossi. He was active in the Watercolor Club and the Charcoal Club, two Baltimore art groups. McGrath had the opportunity to show Etta Cone his work in 1931 and she selected 16 prints and two watercolors. McGrath was now able to say that his work was included in the Cone Collection at The Baltimore Museum of Art.

Signed C1930 woodcut or wood engraving of a country church by listed artist Joseph S. Hauser. The image measures 4" x 5". Signed by Hauser in pencil and in the plate. In very good condition, with minor toning and not laid down. It comes in a simple black frame (worn) with matte. Vintage etching titled "Barskin Creek Tenn", by Leon Pescheret. Such a wonderful image, you could just walk right up the path and into the cabin that has smoke rising from the chimney. It is pencil titled and signed, and signed/dated 1934 in the plate. The image measures 9" x 7" plate, and the entire sheet is 14" x 11". This etching has just come back from restoration and now shows the original tones and shading. Condition is near mint with no problems to note. It is in an older blonde maple wood frame and new mat with archival glass.

Leon Rene Pescheret; painter, illustrator, etcher, craftsman, architect, writer, teacher, and designer; was born in Chiswick, England in 1892 and died in 1961. Pescheret studied at the Royal College of Engraving in Kensington, England; Battersea Polytechnic in London; the Art Institute of Chicago; and in Belgium. He was a pupil of Fleury, Millet, Malcolm Osborn, and Roger Hebbelinck. He was a member of the Palette and Chisel Club; Chicago Society of Etchers; the American Color Print Society; the Society of American Printmakers; and the Printmaker's Society of California. He is a listed artist and his work was well exhibited.

Vintage pencil signed aquatint by Samuel Margolies with winter landscape, C1940. The Image size is 9 3/4 x 8". This seems landscape somewhat dark and moody, and the snow heavy. Condition is very good with even toning and a cream color. This work is in a simple black wood frame and has a blue, grey mat. Signed and titled in pencil by the artist.

Vintage pen and ink illustration by George Baumgard signed and dated 1926. This work measures 10" by 14" and is titled "Colorfull Moments". It depicts a group of men gathered in an industrial or commercial space, possibly some type of club. Note the large rolls of paper (plans, works of art?) and the file drawers. The center figure leaning back in the chair has the attention of the others as he speaks. The figure on the left with Oxford style glasses and listens while rolling his cigarette. This drawing captures the bohemian spirit of the jazz-age. It is in good condition with moderate toning and is not laid down.

The original label on the back indicates that the work was shown in the spring "Salons of America" exhibit at the Anderson Galleries in New York. Salons of America was an art society founded in 1922. The original board of directors included Charles Demuth, E.E. Cummings, Gaston Lachaise, and George Luks. George Baumgard is a listed illustrator and painter with an entry in "Who's Who in American Art". He studied at the New York School of Art with Edward Hopper and Rockwell Kent in 1905. During much of his career, he lived in the borough of Brooklyn.

Antique watercolor on paper of the interior of an artist's studio, unsigned and circa 1890. In a gold tone period frame with wood backing, size 20 X 16. The image is approx. 9" X 13" and is in very good condition. However, but does have one light scrape in the bottom middle. The watercolor has been exaimed out of the frame and was found to be laid down at the corners. At this time a new tan mat was cut and glass placed in front of the image. The back has a hand written note that explains that the image is of an artist's studio. Warm and vibrant colors, it's a work done by an artist of obvious talent. Vintage signed copper plate etching by artist Leonard Mersky‚ (1917-?). This framed the work measures 13" by 12-1/2" and the image is 8-5/8" by 8". The subject is Old Sturbridge Village‚ and the title is "Path to Salem Towne House". The print is pencil signed by Mersky and numbered 125 of 200. Leonard Mersky attended the Massachusetts College of Art, mentoring under the etcher, William Bicknell. He created original copper plate etchings for Colonial Williamsburg, Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, and Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. Besides private collections, Leonard Mersky's work is found in the fine-print collection of Georgetown University.

Vintage art, date of creation 1950-1969, artist Lyman Byxbe (1886-1980). This original etching is titled in pencil lower left "Ranger's Cabin". It is signed in pencil lower right "Lyman Byxbe". Image size is 5" x 6 1/2" and framed measures 12-3/4 by 11-1/4. Very good condition, not laid down, very little toning to the paper. This etching was professionally framed and mated. Vintage pencil signed lithograph by James Chapin of a young clarinet player. The work measures 15 1/2" by 11". The clarinet player is beautifully portrayed, you can almost hear the notes he is playing. The vintage clothing and the divided light door with glass door knob dates the time period to the 1930's. Condition is very good. This lithograph has just come back from restoration and now shows the original tones and shading. A thin hole that measures 1/4" long by 1/16" wide was backed and infilled. It is framed in a period Art Deco style silver and back frame and has a new mat.

A portrait and figure artist, James Chapin first studied at New York's Cooper Union and the Art Students League. He won major awards at both the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago that launched his career as a major painter and printmaker. His first experiments with original lithography were made in the early 1930's. Altogether, Chapin created about thirty works of art in this medium. His works are in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Newark Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, Denver Museum of Art, and the National Portrait Gallery, Washington.

Lush vintage woodcut of the Chateau Frontenac Hotel in Quebec, Canada. This circa 1940 print measures 10" by 8" in the frame. It is signed and titled in pencil, "Chateau Frontenac at Sunset" S T Allen. It provides a wonderful image of this Quebec landmark. The framing and matte are new, and the framing meets archival standards with Tru-Vue museum glass and non-acidic materials. The edition size of the print is unknown but was most likely very small. Antique etching of Lucerne Switzerland signed and titled in pencil. The talent of the artist is evident in the amount of detail in the image and the quality of the rendering. Framed the work is 11-3/4" by 9-1/4", the image itself is 5-5/8" by 3-5/8". The etching has been recently remated with acid free material and the dark brown, simple wood frame is in great condition. Signed etching by Arthur William Heintzelman entitled "Colonial Home Life." depicting George Washington as a boy with mother. This work is from the portfolio "The Bicentennial Pageant of George Washington." George Washington Memorial Association, 1932. Plates printed by Henry E. Carling, London, England. Edition 1000. Plates cancelled. Signed and titled by Heintzelman in pencil. In excellent condition, with no toning and not laid down. It comes in a simple black frame (worn) with new matte. This print has a wonderful genre quality, with a cat in the foreground, an array of pewter on the mantel, and a chair by the fire.

Wonderful 1920's drypoint etching with a sepia tint signed in pencil by the German artist Max Bruning. This work features a semi nude woman in a seated position who is smoking a Turkish water pipe. Her exotic surroundings include animal skin wraps and rug with a Moorish table. The etching measures approx. 11.5 inches by 16 (image is 10-3/4" by 8-1/2"). Condition is good with some minor soiling and rubbing in the margins, this includes the signature. The image itself is not rubbed or toned from exposure to sunlight.

Bruning, Max (Delitzsch, 1887 - Lindau, 1968). At the age of 15 Bruning attended the Leipzig Academy of Art where he studied under Austrian painter Alois Kolb and printmaker Peter Halm. During the First World War (1914-1918) he was an official war artist, with a commission from the German government. However, it is the erotic art produced by Max Bruning during the 1920’s for which he is well known. In addition to his limited edition etchings, his naughty images were also reproduced on postcards and used for advertising purposes. In the 1930’s the rise of Hitler’s government caused him to flee to Austria. When the war ended in 1945 he settled in Lindau. Here the art he created consisted mostly landscape paintings and watercolors. According to the website artoftheprint.com – “Although Max Bruning did not number his engravings and etchings in specific editions, they were published in quite small numbers. As well, many impressions were destroyed as degenerate art when the Nazis took power. Thus his remarkable art is today quite scarce.”

Vintage etching and dry point by artist Elias Grossman entitled "Damascus Gate". Sight measures 15" in length and 11-3/4 " in height (sheet 20 x 15 3/4). Titled and signed in pencil, and in plate, as seen in pics. Also marked in pencil "Excellent Proof (Exhibition proof) my own" in the right margin by Grossman. Good vintage condition with only a couple of very small spots in the image. Margins do show tears (mended), stains, and one small area of loss.

Signed 20th century serigraph entitled "City Street"‚ by Bat Shlomo. This work of art shows a street in the old section of Jerusalem. The image measures 20" x 14" and the entire work is 26" by 20". Framed color etching of the city hall in Bremen Germany. The frame measures 12" by 10" and the etching is the same size. It is titled and signed in pencil but the signature is not legible. A fine grouping of decorative and historical bat prints from the 19th century, one by Buffon. The largest print is an original hand colored engraving from a large, quality French edition of George Louis Leclerc Buffon's Natural History. The two smaller prints are from the same era but are Italian. Each print is beautifully and professionally framed, they measure approx. 12x16, 12x9, and 11x8. Condition is excellent with no foxing, moisture dammage, or other problems to note. This group came from a local estate with the two Italian prints being purchased at "The Ainsworth Gallery" in Boston, and the Buffon has a sticker from an auction house or antique shop. Vintage monotype of Mexican man in a sombrero with serape by Carl Pappe. The dimensions inside the plate mark measures 18" by 11-1/2". This print has dark hues and tones with a rich painterly surface. It is a strong impression signed in pencil by the artist. The work was done on off-white paper and is in excellent condition. It is not laid down, scraped, torn, or water dammaged. Monotyping produces a unique print, or monotype (only one), because most of the ink is removed during the initial pressing. So this is likely the only copy of this print.

Born in Hungary in 1900, Carl Pappe was five years old, his father immigrated to the United States in search for a new life for his family. From 1921 to 1925 Carl attended the Cleveland School of Art (now the Cleveland Institute of Art). Amidst the Depression, he visited Mexico City in 1934 and began to work as a cook and tour guide to earn money for rent on a studio where he could paint. He met Bernice Goodspeed, his future wife; an anthropologist and tour guide specializing in sites of antiquity. She became a designer of silver jewelry and authored books on Mexican folklore, illustrated by her husband Carl. They opened a gallery in the still quaint silver mining town of Taxco, southwest of Mexico City. He died at age 98, in 1998 in Taxco, he was poor financially yet very rich in personal friendships. Carl Pappe is a well listed artist with documented auction records who worked in many mediums.

Vintage airplane, advertising art for United Airlines DC7 service to San Francisco. The image size for this print is 14-1/2 by 10”. Its quality is extraordinary, very sharp colors with a wonderful view of the Bay of San Francisco with the Oakland Bay Bridge in the foreground, and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. The marking near the front of the plane reads “DC-7 Mainliner City of San Francisco”. This print is a nice piece of aviation history. Postcards of the era proclaimed: "The nation's number 1 coast-to-coast airline. Pride of the fleet - United's new 365 mph (587 kmh) DC-7s, the world's fastest airliner. You enjoy service fit for a king in this newest addition to United's Mainliner fleet." From Wikipedia: "The Douglas DC-7 was built by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1953 to 1958. It was the last major piston engine powered transport made by Douglas, coming just a few years before the advent of jet aircraft such as the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8. " Condition of the print is excellent with no stains, or other problems. This vintage work of art is in the original frame, which measures 21” by 17” (frame is in fair condition). 1920's metal photographic pin-back style frame with wedding portrait. The back is made of metal and it has an angled clip attached to display the frame (this clip looks to be a later addition, but works fine). Vintage limited edition lithograph by listed artist Irving Amen that depicts two chess player and a group of onlookers. The print is in wonderful condition and measures 13 1/2" x 17 1/2". It is signed, titled, and numbered in pencil by the artist. This print is number 15 of 300 and was never framed.

Irving Amen is a twentieth century sculptor, painter, etcher, silk-screen and woodcut artist. He studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the Academy Grande Chaumiere in Paris. Besides practicing his art, Amen also taught classes in sculptor and printmaking at such influential schools as the Pratt Institute (1961) and at Notre Dame University (1962). His art was exhibited with the Society of American Graphic Artists, the Library of Congress and the National Academy of Design. In 1949 the Smithsonian Institution also launched a one man exhibition of his work. Amen's famous art is now included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Bibliotheque Royale, Brussels, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.

Wonderful watercolor portrait of a hawk by Connecticut artist Kathy Goff. The image measures 9 by 6-1/2 and the work is signed on the bottom right. Framed the painting measures 17 by 15 it is in a medium brown wood frame with a white matt. C1990, this wildlife art is in near mint condition. Artist Kathy Goff has created "illustrations of animals for cards, puzzles, games, books, magazines and projects for National Geographic, the Smithonian Institute and the National Wildlife Federation..." (avon.patch.com). She and artist Mark Maglio created the design that appears on the "Caring for Pets" license plate issued by the State of Connecticut. She currently works out of a studio at the Farmington Valley Arts Center and lives in Avon.

Great mid-century oil painting with beach scene signed Cal Martin. This painting measures 14" by 10", and according to the words in pencil on the back, is entitled "Cat Boat". About the artist: John Krivda lived in Bethany, Connecticut. Mr. Krivda was employed as a commercial artist for several advertising agencies and retired from the art department at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stamford. Antique, Victorian era tintype of a young girl with doll. This tintype is half-plate size and measures approx. 4.5 x 5.5 inches. It has some surface wear and several corners (which are no longer visible) have light creases. The photo has been placed in an oval mat and put in a 7-3/4" by 5-3/4" black frame. Framed 3" by 2" oval scrimshaw portrait of a stag signed BJ done by the artist Barbara Jean Woodburn. The frame measures 8" by 6" and is dark brown in color with gold and black trim. Condition is excellent for this C1970 piece, near mint. Barbara Woodburn has work in most maritime museums and was featured in the book Scrimshaw: Variations on a Theme by Martha Bowen. Antique Chromolithograph print of Virgin Mary and Jesus or Madonna and Child, C1900. The work in frame measures 25" by 21" and is in very good condition. One of the angels in the top corner is holding a three-bar cross a symbol used in the Russian Orthodox Church. The ornate frame is old and possibly original to the piece. It originally had a gilded finish and was repainted with gold paint at some point (20-30 years ago) and the effect is pleasing. The glass is old and original. Condition of the print is very good with no major damage. Worth mentioning is a nickle size hole in the crown of Mary. The paper behind the hole and been colored to match the surrounding area and your attention will not be drawn this section of the print. The print has been removed from the frame and the glass was cleaned and the backing changed. It is now ready to be re-hung and enjoyed.

Historical 19th century chromolithograph entitled "Col. Fuston and 20th Kansas Volunteers Crossing the River at Calumpit, April 26th 1899" (Philippines). This chromolithograph was published by by Taber Prang Art Co., Springfield, Mass in 1899. The Image size measures 20" x 28" (507 mm x 712 mm). Condition is fair with good color, but has creasing and damages in image/sheet edge (please look at all 4 photos by clicking on the main image). Currently this lithograph is on foam core board and held in place with plastic corners. In addition, the tears have been mended using archival, water soluble tape. This print is now 113 year old, this is not a copy or recent reproduction. Vintage 1940's publicity photo to advertise the retail line of jewelry made by Joseff of Hollywood "Jeweler to the Stars". This period black & white photograph measures 8X10 and was printed on heavy paper stock. The back of the photo has a cut out piece of typing paper affixed to it with a caption that reads "The latest fancy in Fall jewellery, is the lapel ensemble designed for Glenda Farrell by Joseff. For wear with tailored suits, the set consists of two leaf shaped pins, a double chain and a tassel. Glenda will soon be seen in Universal's "The Road to Reno"". Also on the back is an order number stamp, numbered in blue fountain pen ink, and another ink stamp that reads "For Display Only Not For Publication Joseff of Hollywood". Vintage original book cover from the Librairie Artheme Fayard edition of The Saint in New York written by Leslie Charteris. The wonderful graphics on the cover indicate that the edition from which this cover is taken was printed in the 1940s/1950s. The cover has wonderful rich colors with an elegant sense of design. 1947 Ligget cigarette ad for Chesterfield Cigarettes with a celebrity endorsement from actor James Stewart. The color image measures 10 by 12 and is an original magazine ad. The bottom edge states "Copyright 1947, Ligget & Myers Tobacco Co". Framed this piece measures 15 X 18 and both the ad and the frame are in excellent condition. Vintage copper faced advertising block, C1950. It was used to print the logo and ad copy for Gilbert & Bennett MFG. Co. of Georgetown, CT. Along with the copy are images of rolled fencing. Original etching by artist Phillip Kappel titled "Holiday Shopping Barranquilla, Columbia S.A.". This small version of the work was sent as a Christmas Card in 1978. The person who kept and framed the etching attached the interior of the card to the back of the frame. On it was printed "Best Wishes for A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year - Philip Kappel". It blue ink he wrote "Dear Kari & Hans: It's never too late to wish you a fine 1978. Philip". The card also has his address and zip in the right corner (Roxbury, CT 06783). An unusual item for the Philip Kappel or artist Christmas card collector. Condition of the item is very good. Please excuse the photo of the back, the shadows make the attached card appear darkly stained but it is not. Very nice example of Beneker's WWI propaganda poster with the slogan "Sure We'll Finish the Job". Signed in the plate Gerrit A. Beneker 1918. Published by Edwards & Deutsch Litho. Co. Chicago. The poster measures approx. 26"w x 37"h. Condition is very good; a clean example with vibrant color and no folds. It was photographed in shrink wrap so colors are much better than shown.
