Circa 1900 Watercolor of Artist's Studio - Nice Interior with Great Detail and Color Antique watercolor on paper of the interior of an artist's studio, unsigned and circa 1900. In a gold tone period frame with wood backing, size 20 X 16. The image is approx. 9" X 13" and is in very good condition. However, but does have one light scrape in the bottom middle. The watercolor has been exaimed out of the frame and was found to be laid down at the corners. At this time a new tan mat was cut and glass placed in front of the image. The back has a hand written note that explains that the image is of an artist's studio. Warm and vibrant colors, it's a work done by an artist of obvious talent. Vintage Signed Lithograph by James Chapin - Boy With Clarinet Vintage pencil signed lithograph by James Chapin of a young clarinet player. The work measures 15 1/2" by 11". The clarinet player is beautifully portrayed, you can almost hear the notes he is playing. The vintage clothing and the divided light door with glass door knob dates the time period to the 1930's. Condition is fair. The image is darkened by exposure to sunlight, has creasing of the paper mostly in the margins but has one in the upper right corner, and a thin hole that measures 1/4" long by 1/16" wide. In addition, old tape that held the framed image in place is on all the edges. However, in a frame with the right mat, these faults would all but disappear.
A portrait and figure artist, James Chapin first studied at New York's Cooper Union and the Art Students League. He won major awards at both the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago that launched his career as a major painter and printmaker. His first experiments with original lithography were made in the early 1930's. Altogether, Chapin created about thirty works of art in this medium. His works are in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Newark Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, Denver Museum of Art, and the National Portrait Gallery, Washington.

This framed etching measures 13" square and is in excellent condition. Very nice mat and frame, wonderful image. The etching is artist titled, signed and dated in pencil. It is also numbered: 17 out of an edition of 260.
Kathleen Cantin was born in 1951. She has lived and worked in both New Hampshire and Vermont, and the New England Countryside she admires provides inspiration for her images. She attended the University of New Hampshire. since then she has participated in several print exhibits, including the Second U.S. International Graphics Annual Exhibition. Her work is included in many collections throughout the United States, among them the Smithsonian Institute and the Decordova and Fairbanks Museums.

Antique Portrait Painting on Cobweb or Spiderweb - German Art in Folio - Franz Richard Unterberger Innsbruck Circa 1890 German portrait painting on spiderweb in folio. This painting measures 4 by 5 inches, and the book or folio is 8" X 10". A paper label inside the cover states in English and German "Painting on Cobweb, Fr. Unterberger, Innsbruck, Tirol. Franz Richard Unterberger was born in Innsbruck Austria in 1838. He studied at the Academy of Munich, with Albert Zimmerman, at Weimar, and under Andreas Achenbach at Dusseldorf. This painting is in excellent condition but has two small damaged areas. They are near the woman's shoulder and the web is torn. The colors in the painting are beautiful and vibrant and the talent of the artist evident. The earliest instances of using gathered layers of spiderweb as a canvas date back to 15th century in Bavaria. This is a quality example of a rare art form. Additional photos can be emailed. Vintage John McGrath Etching - France Buvette Small vintage etching by listed artist John McGrath that depicts the working class French drawing water from a fountain. The image is moderately toned and measures 4 1/4" by 5". It is signed in pencil by the artist and is currently in a worn 10 X 10 frame. The translation of the French word Buvette can refer to a drinking fountain serving spring water or natural mineral water. This etching is not dated but might be from the early part of his career when he studied in France.
The Baltimore artist John McGrath studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Paris at the Académie Julian and Académie Colarossi. He was active in the Watercolor Club and the Charcoal Club, two Baltimore art groups. McGrath had the opportunity to show Etta Cone his work in 1931 and she selected 16 prints and two watercolors. McGrath was now able to say that his work was included in the Cone Collection at The Baltimore Museum of Art.

Victorian Hand Colored Tin Type - 1/6 Plate Size - Jewelry, Beauty, and Fashion High Victorain fashion and jewelry is on display in the C1870 hand colored tintype. The tintype is 1/6 plate size or 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Condition is good with some scratches and small loss of image and rust on the bottom edge. Framed and mated any flaws almost disappear, and the frame measures 5 1/2" by 7 1/2". A great image of a Victorian beauty.
Vintage etching by Thomas Nason signed in pencil and dated 1939. This pastoral landscape measures 10" by 12" with a farmer and his cows nearing a small bridge. It is in good condition with light to moderate toning.
Nason’s detailed pastoral renderings were often used to illustrate books, some by friend and poet Robert Frost, who shared a common view of the New England countryside. Nason was a member of the National Academy of Design, the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Antique Chromolithograph - Religious Fine Art Print - Joseph and Jesus with Flower Antique chromolithograph and religious print with Joseph and Jesus with flower, C1880. The image is 20 x 15 2/8 and is paper mounted on canvas, as issued; no maker's stamp visible on back. In a period wood frame (worn) with old glass and wood backing. Condition is good but does have two darkened areas due to past moisture damage. The areas of damage are in the top of the flower and above the halo of Jesus. Also the print, as it appears unframed, has dark thick inks that look as if they were coated with varnish and give the print the appearance an oil painting. Lastly, it has some minor wear and chipping in margins.
Barbara Nessim Color Illustration for Magazine 1964 - Terry Southern's Candy Hand colored monotype etching from 1964 by Barbara Nessim. This image was created to illustrate a magazine article on Terry Southern's book "Candy". Per the artist: "For your information that is probably the only hand colored print that exists. Also I never made an edition of them so there are only very few etchings that are around - I would say only around 3 to 5 tops - all would be "artists proofs". This etching is in excellent condition and framed it measures 17" by 14".
Barbara Nessim is an internationally known artist, illustrator and educator. She received her art training at Pratt Institute (1956-60) in the Department of Illustration and Fine Art. Since 1980 she has been using the computer to create art and has lectured widely on the subject. Her paintings and drawings are part of numerous public and private collections and have been shown in museums and galleries worldwide. Nessim's work is in the permanent collection of The Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, USA; Lunds Kunsthal, Lund, Sweden; and the Szepmuveszeti Museum in Budapest, Hungary, among others.

Morgan, the Smithsonian Institute, and the Congressional Library.
