SOLD!!!

Vintage hair pin with a thin layer high karat gold over a pitch or tree sap support accented with green and red enamel. At some later date a gold sleeve with a pin finding was made for this piece so it could be worn as a brooch. It measures 4-1/2" long and is up to 3/4" wide. The brooch finding weighs 2.2 grams so a conservative estimate of the gold content in the entire piece would be close to 4.5 grams. Condition is good with some spots of wear through of the gold and some wear to the enamel. Jewelry made using gold overlay in conjunction with pitch is described on pg 96 of "The Jewelry of Nepal" by Hannelore Gabriel. The jewelry mentioned in this section of the book comes from the Middle Hills region of this country. However the style of this piece is not quite the same. $8.50 US or Canada ship/insure, and shipping costs for multiple purchases are automatically discounted. Orders from most foreign countries are no problem!
